The city of Los Angeles wants to encourage more affordable housing to be built. An extraordinary initiative was announced by Mayor Eric Garcetti when he launched the Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) Standard Plan Program. While you would usually have to pay architects’ fees when planning any new construction or home addition, the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS) now has a selection of pre-approved plans that means you can save both time and hassle, and start making money from your new ADU. There are 20 pre-approved designs, plus a review process that usually takes 4 to 6 weeks can now be approved within one day.
